We provide a platform for visionaries to share their works, collaborate with noted artists, and engage in deep dialogue with thought-leaders. We also promote live shows that highlight our collaborative efforts.
SDP highlights the talent, passion, and wisdom of young poets in these challenging times.
Our Inspiration
In 2020 John Medeski and Jeff Firewalker collaborated with the legendary poet Umar Bin Hassan of the Last Poets to create a musical backdrop to Umar’s vivid and powerful poem called “Painstorms”
How it Works
Each season, poets will be invited to submit a recording of them reciting one of their original poems. Each broadcast season, a team of advisors will choose six poems to debut. SDP’s collaborating musicians will work together to create a recorded musical/sonic backdrop to the poem resulting in a truly unique expression of the poem. Each episode of SDP will feature one of the poets and the collaborative poetry-music piece is debuted. These works will also be made available on most music streaming platforms.
